Ring 322 Launches “May Magic sa Maynila”
Ring 322, The Magicians Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the City of Manila, through Hon. Mayor Lito Atienza launched last May 6, 2006 at the Raja Sulayman Plaza, Roxas Boulevard, the month long event, “May Magic sa Maynila”, which will declare May as the Magic month of the city.
The event highlights three separate evening tent shows for Close up and Parlor Magic, Puppetry and Ventriloquism and Face Painting with Glitter Tattoo every night from Wednesdays to Saturdays with Street Magicians roaming the entire Baywalk area, a grand gala show, MAGFI’s 16th Anniversary Show, on the 19th at the Phil Am Life Theater and a closing ceremony show with the unveiling of the Magicians’ Walk of Fame on the 27th.
Before the official launching, organizers from the City of Manila were entertained by Darwin Novicio, who masterfully performed Doc Ronnie’s variation of Fiber Optics. Doc Ronnie Moraleta followed and performed Crazy Man’s Handcuff and Pinnacle while May Magic sa Maynila Project Director Rannie Raymundo amazingly did Flying Kiss and a card reading effect, wherein another spectator determines a chosen card via telekinesis.
The show started off with a prayer from Ernie Sarangaya, followed by Project Director Rannie Raymundo’s informative speech and Hon. Mayor Lito Atienza’s inspirational talk with Magic. He showed different colored papers, signifying Filipinos with different principles and transformed them into a dove to signify, that, with unity something beautiful will happen. MAGFI Past President Demetrio Cuizon kicked off on stage with dove productions and vanishes, candle routines and ended with an Escape act. Enrique “Burik” Nadela performed Some More Milk, Vanishing Milk and Multum In Parvo with Felizardo Feliciano assisting. Rony Mariano did a Linking Ring routine and Snow Storm in China. Ernie Sarangaya animated a puppet while Arnold Allanigui ate a balloon and performed the Head Box. MAGFI Chairman Nap Bargas Perez did Torn and Restored Newspaper and Watch Steal from 3 spectators! Allan De Paz floated a tissue paper and produced a dove, which he eventually vanished in the end. Ferdie Peran produced and vanished a silk hanky and performed an entertaining Needle Through Balloon routine. The show ended with an acrobat show from the Dynamic Acrobats.
The Face Painting tent was manned by Sam Punzalan and Irish Joven, while Marc Ondevilla, Ian Adriano, JB Dela Cruz, Rony Mariano and Allan Poblete took care of the Magic tent, and Maurice Supetran and Sam Fuentes animated puppets in the Puppetry tent. Butch Gonzales roamed around as a mime artist.
This event was documented by Mae Cruz and Lito Saguisag, who took videos and photos. MAGFI members’ Mark Guzman, Vany Sumulong, Errol Bacalzo, Rene Boy Nocomora, Adonis Ferry, Edwin Reyes, George Mamonluk, Lou Hilario, Jolly Valenzuela and Chris Orbon were present for support. Members from other Magic Clubs were also present; Salamangka Filipino President Tony Solis and members’ Daniel Bayron, Jeffrey Patajo, Danny Logero and Joel Garcia were there, as well as, Inner Magic Club members’ Michael Fernando and Eric Ma and Filipino Street Magician members’ Daniel Soriano, Vanessa Zambale and Verrico Leaño, . Other magicians and guests present were Herman Aquino, Solomon Cu, Marie and Giorgio Mamonluk and Brenda Mangrobang.
